Starting is good, continuing is better
It isn't called a house when's just the foundation that has been laid
I want to start a business; I want to start a podcast; I want to start sharing my personal stories with the world; I want to start… I want to start…
And then we start.
Starting is scary.
Starting is crazy.
Perhaps behind your start is a thousand hours of procrastination, of fear, of anxiety.
Then finally, you kick off and you think, phew, eventually took this first bold step.
When you start, you're entitled to luxuriate, to feel good about doing finally instead of just imagining (and building sand castles in your head).
But for how long? To start is beautiful but that isn't where the story should end.
Five days down the line, are you still going? What about 4 weeks later? A year? Six years?
There's START and there's also STOP.
Stop doesn't exist if there wasn't a journey that started. You started? Congratulations, what a way to go!
But your story wouldn't be all that beautiful if that's all you did.
It would be better if there's continuity.
Laying the foundation of a house is an amazing feat but no one is going to celebrate you if that's all you're ever going to do.
To build your dream house, you have to continue working on the already laid foundation (laying the bricks, putting in the fixtures).
Want to become a New York Times Best Seller? Write a book. But you don't stop there, you do other things that will together help you become one.
Want to be fit? Eat and exercise right today. Then, keep doing it over the next couple of days, months and years.
When I started my language lessons, I barely knew a word in Spanish except for the regular amigo, mi amor…
You get me.
But continuation and consistency bought me desafortunadamente, este es un nuevo parte de mi vida amongst other simple sentences I can now make.
It was cool that I started, but it's cooler now that I can say these sentences. Sooo…
You don't get what you want by only just starting. Start and continue!
Here's to leaving the starting line and pressing onwards towards the finish line of our goals and dreams.
Well said ✨
Starting is one thing, the consistency is always the real ghetto. But we'll keep trying and keep going, won't we?
